NEWS: The U.S. Department of the Treasury issued this bulletin to announce that it will be retiring OFAC’s Compliance Hotline email (OFAC_Feedback@treasury.gov) on August 16, 2024, and the OFAC Compliance Hotline telephone numbers (1-800-540-6322 and 202-622-2490) on December 31, 2024. OFAC is transitioning to a single, user-friendly online platform to receive questions from the public. The bulletin says: “Users can now submit queries—and provide all necessary details—directly through OFAC’s new OFAC Compliance Hotline page. This new platform is designed to improve OFAC’s tracking of queries and help OFAC assess when additional public guidance may be helpful.”
OFAC will fully transition to this web form platform by January 1, 2025.
The new OFAC Compliance Hotline page provides options for quick assistance with common requests, for example:
- If you want to check OFAC’s sanctions lists, including the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons list, please visit: Sanctions List Service.
- For guidance on how to assess potential matches to one of OFAC’s sanctions list, please see our FAQ on the topic: FAQ 5: How do I determine if I have a valid OFAC match?
- If you want to apply for an OFAC authorization or check the status of an existing license application, please visit: OFAC License Application Page.
- If you want to submit a required report to OFAC, please visit: OFAC Reporting System.
- If you want to appeal an OFAC designation or other listing, please visit: Filing a Petition for Removal from an OFAC List.
- If you want to submit a voluntary self-disclosure, please visit: Submit voluntary self-disclosures electronically.
If the credit union has an OFAC question that is not answered with the above links, it would then submit the question to the new OFAC Compliance Hotline Query. The submitter will receive an automated email confirmation to the email address provided in the query, along with a unique OFAC assigned query number for tracking purposes.
