SUMMARY:Safeguarding Seniors: A Guide for Financial Institutions
DESCRIPTION:This self-paced training is designed to equip financial institutions with essential knowledge and skills to recognize and report financial abuse in later life. Participants will learn to describe various forms of financial abuse\, identify risk factors and potential signs\, and understand the appropriate channels for reporting suspected cases. \nInitially geared for financial planners\, the training developers\, the Department of Financial Institutions (DFI)\, granted permission to adapt the training for financial institutions. DFI is a state-level agency that regulates and oversees financial services to protect consumers and ensure fair practices. They can play a role in addressing and preventing financial abuse by providing resources\, education and enforcement actions. \nThis training is for staff at financial institutions throughout Wisconsin. Financial planners should take the original training\, which is located at the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) website. \nLearning objectives: \n\nDescribe forms of financial abuse\nIdentify risk factors and potential signs of financial abuse\nKnow where to report elder abuse
